WAP

Wireless application protocol. Some telecom companies call this 'internet via your portable telephone' but that's misleading, since WAP pages need to be written in an (X)HTML-like language called WML. It's not a great success yet (200102).

Watchdog timer

This is a timer that must be reset regurarly by software or some hardware event, otherwise it's assumed that the system has run amok and a hardware reset is forced.

Be careful however or this can happen.

WAV

Sound wave file format as defined by IBM and Microsoft.
It's one of the RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format) formats.
